Positive Aspects Of Being On A Diabetic Diet

People that receive the diagnosis that they have diabetes need to understand what they can do about this debilitating illness. This disease can be handled more appropriately if you change your lifestyle. Certain behaviors and habits that you currently have can be modified in a positive way using the diabetic diet. Proper nutrition is the key to stabilizing the level of your blood sugar each and every day. Daily exercise routines are a key component of making sure that you stay healthy. Those that are overweight should make a definite choice to lose the extra pounds. In the words that follow, we will present a bit about the diabetic diet. The advice is quite straight forward if you watch what you eat, maintain some fitness even just by doing everyday tasks like cleaning, gardening or just walking regularly - most diabetics can have a fairly normal life.

Awareness of what you eat is critical when you're a diabetic. You need to be diligent about the foods you eat at every meal. This isn't really that difficult; it's more a matter of forming new habits. One of the easiest guidelines is to make sure you have lots of colors on your plate. So make diverse choices and have vegetables, fruits, and meats. You can even consult with a licensed dietitian to get individual help with the right diet for you.

The best person to design your diet plan, of course, is your doctor, who knows your specific condition. Your job is to adhere to this diet as closely as possible. Stick to the foods you're supposed to eat, and don't overdo it with portions, as this can be crucial too. Fats must be restricted, especially unhealthy fats, if you have Type 2 diabetes. Your fat can be detrimental to the production of insulin in your body, a common problem for Type 2 diabetics. When you have diabetes and you're overweight, there's also an increased risk for heart problems, so that's another reason to watch your fat and calorie intake.

People with diabetes, or those who need to reduce cholesterol are often put on the TLC diet. The main focus of this diet is to reduce your intake of foods that can raise your cholesterol. You can help the process along by doing other things in your everyday life as well. Exercise can go a long way in helping you to control your weight, and it can also help reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol. The bad cholesterol, or LDL type is the kind you want to reduce. HDL, or good cholesterol, on the other hand, is something you should try to raise. Diabetes can take a few different forms, and your doctor will advise you regarding the best approach to take. Having diabetes is a challenge, but it can be controlled with a combination of medicine and diet. You don't have the luxury of ignoring your diet, as certain foods have the potential to cause you real problems. Whether you cook for yourself or eat out, you need to be conscious of everything you're eating. The specific diet you follow isn't really the issue, though some may work better for you than others. The challenge is to discover which foods keep your blood sugar at a safe level.

WELCOME TO MY NOT SO DIABETIC BLOG

Welcome to my Blog.  This is my first attempt at blogging so bare with me on proper etiquette.  Then again my life has not been what one would call normal.  That’s the Plus part in the title.  While being diabetic for the most part is not normal, my life has not been typical of diabetics in general.  This blog is not a medical journal so if you’re looking for advice goes to Web.MD or something.  I’ll try to keep the language appropriate but once again, bear with me.  I spent a career working at a prison so my mouth is a little dirty. The first and foremost is what this Blog is all about: Diabetes.  The second is about my favorite sport: Football.  The third is about my fledgling business: Internet marketing.  While most blogs concern themselves with one main topic, my blog is about my life stories.  My life has a ton of stories.  I’m sure many of you have similar stories and I invite you to post comments about them.  That being said; my blog will always have several topics.  I may only post about one topic or I might post about 3 or 4 topics.  I don’t stick to most protocols when it comes to getting people to read my blog, but that is okay.  My life hasn’t been what most people call normal.  And, after being diagnosed a Diabetic, my life will not be like most normal people.  So, I hope you enjoy and keep coming back.  I post once a week at minimum.  The Second Post is the newest or "just posted"; from there its a time line from the beginning.  There are several other items of interest on the sidebars, so ENJOY! NEW UPDATE:  I will also now allow other relevant content to be posted to my blog.  This is to hopefully get the Search "spiders" to notice my blog.

Diabetic December

Man, the pas two weeks have been busy.  I apologize to anybody that reads this blog for not commenting the two weeks.  A lot of things have been going on have kept me busy well that is not entirely true but I have been doing a lot of work on my other sites.  My diabetes has taken a new turn as well.  I had a visit to my doctor last week and we went over a few diabetic symptoms that I have been worried about.  My fantasy football leagues did some amazing things these last two weeks as well.  And now it time for the playoffs in most of them.  I’ll let you know what’s up there as well.  As far as my Home Business goes, I have done a ton of work there as well.  Not it is going to do me much good for now but anybody in the business knows these things take time so I’m not worried.  I also have a very hilarious story going back to my senior year in high school that relates to my pre-diabetes days and something I’m still not sure I would change if I wanted to.  And as we all know the holidays are in full swing.  One of my most dreaded times of the year.  Actually I am almost like a scrooge when it comes to this time of the year except when it comes to my daughter.  Still, Christmas is a time I wish didn’t come around.  Yeah, I know “it’s the spirit” and all that stuff, but it has always been difficult for me.  I can’t even enjoy the food this season.  Thanksgiving was tough, but this is going to be harder!

So I go and see my doctor last week.  I had a couple of issues.  It seems that on a consistent basis my blood sugar would be low and I would get serious shakes, sweats and delirium.  Other times I wouldn’t be hungry but would have the shakes and my sugar would be low.  I couldn’t figure it out.  My Diabetes had been going into some type of overdrive or under drive.  Well it seems that as far as diabetics go, I had been taking some serious amounts of medicine.  This was partly due to get my sugar down fast to get the surgery.  Taking insulin, glizipide and metformin all at the same time was just too much.  Well as I got my sugar down, changed my diet somewhat and partially exercising, I didn’t need that much medication anymore.  So we have dropped the insulin (take only as necessary) and the glizipide.  We also change the amount and frequency of motorman.  So far, I haven’t had what I call a Diabetic Attack.  As it turns out I have also lost some feeling in the first two toes on both of my feet.  This is common amongst many diabetics and has to be monitored.  I thought it was from all those years working at the prison and in the Marine Corps.  Well I have some diabetic medicine for that now as well and have to pay more attention to my feet.

Two weeks ago my fantasy football leagues really kicked some ass!! I only had 5 loses out of 46 teams.  92% winning percentage is awesome in any betting books.  I benched Big Ben in a few teams and did really well.  Then I forgot to change a few back.  One of the teams I had Manning starting.  So, last week was the complete opposite.  I bombed on most of my teams.  I was 38% in winning column.  Now the playoffs are starting and it is not as bad as I thought.  If you read any previous posts, this is only my second time playing fantasy football and the first time was about 5 years ago.  As of now, I have 32 teams heading to the playoffs.  Now you also have to factor in that when many players start out the season losing the first few games they give up and never go back to adjusting their teams.  This hurts the rest of league as far as competition and kind of skews the rankings toward to end of the year.  For example; I am 7-6 in on league and going to the playoffs.  That is only due to a few other teams going 2-11 because they just gave up.  If they had been competitive, the numbers probably would have been different.  But who cares now, I’m in and that’s all that matters.  If I was in a paid league, I might have had a chance in a couple of places.  I’m 12-1 with one team and 11-2 in another.  I’ll talk about Keeper leagues in next week’s post (hopefully). Well it’s a day later and the Steelers just put a “Smackdown” on Cincinnati.  Looks like I’m kicking some butt again this weekend.

My Business is moving along at a snail’s pace.  There have been a couple of new developments though in my marketing strategies.  I found a new article spinner that is out of this world.  Best of all, it is free. And, it is far better than any of the paid article spinners on the market.  And believe me; I have tried a ton of them.  It’s called Spinner Chief and you can pick it up by clicking on the link.  I have also been diligently working on directory submission and backlinking.  I have decided to concentrate on this and put off on the list building.  Quite frankly, I it’s hard to build a list if your website isn’t being seen.  And it won’t be seen if is on page 40 of Google.  I found some help in Warrior Forum, a Forum for Internet Marketers.  There a few people out there to help with Backlinks.  I’ve also been trying to redesign some of my other blog; http://www.caldet.com/articles.  My Affiliate Marketing Site Help are total assholes.  Every time a question is asked, it is answered with a question.  Basically they don’t want to help unless you are going to pay for it to be done by them.  It should be called Site Services and not Site Help.  I’m trying to change some colors in a WordPress Theme.  I have changed the color numbers in the header but it doesn’t seem to take, and the only thing that “Help” says is “Are you trying to edit template files?”  HELLO! It’s the blog jackass!!

Ok so it’s my senior year and we are on a wrestling trip for a weekend.  We are staying in motel that is close the border of Mexico.  It’s a tournament so there are several teams staying either in the motel or nearby.  A buddy of mine and I manage to get 3 six packs of our favorite beverage and a couple of cheerleaders (they bought the beer) have come over to our room.  We are keeping it relatively quiet and just playing some cards (no, not strip poker).  My buddy and I are thinking we are going to get lucky.  Next thing I know they break out a small bottle of tequila and now the party is on.  As luck would have it we both drank way too much and passed out before anything “lucky” could happen.  I didn’t even remember them leaving.  The following day we are puking our guts out on the mat before matches, and I can see the girls off in the background laughing.  I’m telling you it right out of the movies, except this happened before all those movies were made.  Damn, we were pissed, and you should have seen our coach!!  This was one of my first “alcohol and what it can do to your body” speeches that I had outside of my family.   The coach was a Diabetic and that was all he could talk about.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  I’ll probably be posting again before that, but I want to get the salutations out of the way to focus on other things.  God Bless!!

Just Diagnosed Diabetic amongst other Lifestyle Changes!

09/19  For those of you who are already Diabetic or new to the Diabetes World, this Blog might be a funny and interesting blog.  I also hope it is informative to newly diagnosed Diabetics, those who are already diagnosed and the families of Diabetics.  I also hope it's informative for me.  A very old friend started calling me TDog and over twenty years ago and the name stuck.  Let's say I'm over forty (40) years of age (thereabouts) and about two months ago I was diagnosed a "Diabetic".  The "Plus" is my Lifestyle prior to becoming a Diabetic and my Lifestyle today which includes a subscription to Lifetrax.  If you would like to learn about changing your Lifestyle, from diet to finances to goals, Click Here
A few years ago, I was your typical single parent of beautiful daughter and had a very outgoing lifestyle and knew nothing about Diabetes.  I went to work, played softball, attempted (as I call it) to play Golf regularly.  I was so infatuated with golf; I had multiple computer and video games on the sport and even bought several help manuals like "The Simple Swing".  If you would like to know more about "The Simple Swing", Click Here.  I also dated; hit the usual Country Social Scenes and played softball.  If you haven’t already guessed, I'm a country music fan.  So if you don't like my Country Music Ad then Click Here. More importantly I liked spending time with my daughter.  Speaking of my daughter and Diabetes; she is already showing signs of Hypoglycemia, so I guess it runs in the family. Growing up I was undiagnosed Hypoglycemia.  My blood sugar would regularly run low and I would eat some food and the symptoms would go away.  After of a good night "socializing", my friends would always call the symptoms "The DTs".  Of course I always denied it and either had something to eat or partake in some liquid refreshment.  The latter seemed to work best (LOL).
I also loved to cook, so I never considered Diabetes a problem.  I even wanted to be a Chef and actually attended a prestigious Culinary School.  I had outdoor BBQs with my handy BBQ Manual, which you can get by Clicking Here.  I always had them by the pool with my friends and neighbors.  One of my neighbors was a nurse and would constantly tell me to watch my blood sugar when she observed my "shakes" and "sweats" and tried to inform me about Diabetes. She also recommend that I check some ancient Health Secrets.  You can also do that by Clicking Here
Just so you are not too mislead by the name of my blog, I am just writing about certain events in my life that had I made different decisions then, I probably wouldn’t be here right now talking about Diabetes or having surgery.  What I can tell you is that in certain circumstance, had I not made some of the dumb mistakes or hilarious  FUBARs  then I probably wouldn’t have some of the things I am happiest about most in my life.  For one thing, I wouldn’t have flooded my whole back yard because I broke a water line with a jackhammer (Where was Angie's List in those days). I didn't even bother  to consult the Water Department for blue marks. I also wouldn’t have wrecked five vehicles and two motorcycles in the span of fifteen years.  The funny thing is my knee injury is not from any of them.  It happened while I was in my former profession and aggravated years later by playing sand volleyball of all thing.  One small piece of advice; if you enjoy life like I do, have good insurance and don't play volleyball.  In my case, common sense was my enemy.

From The Beginning!

09/21 OK, Now that I got my initial post and somewhat of a design put up, I guess I should start from the beginning.  The beginning is somewhat vague as I'm not sure which beginning to start at.  Obviously, I'm not going to start at my birth. I should start where I kissed off my Diabetic diet last night by having Steak and Hush Puppies and cranking out some Van Halen.  Hey, I loved Rock-n-Roll as a kid.  The Country come later.Doesn't sound like it would hurt my blood sugar level does it?  Problem is I topped it off with Strawberry Shortcake.  Is that not too bad of a choice? OK, the big issue is I used a Restaurant Cookbook.  It has some darn good recipes in it.  You should grab a copy Here.  Anyway I kind of loaded up on carbs.  Those of you who don't know, carbs turn to sugar.  Speaking of too much sugar, before I was diagnosed, I averaged just a little over 12 cans of soda day.  And I got a good night’s rest.  For me, that's about 4 hours.  On top of that, my knee hurts like hell!  And with my addictive personality, I have to watch it on the vicadin. Anyway, I'm off track.  Guess I'll star when I was about 15. Call it pre-pre-pre Diabetic.  The time of the original 501's for $15, T-shirts, Vans shoes was new and AC/DC and Journey were the real deal. Also the time where I had my first royal ass whooping by some seniors!  Yeah, that's a pretty good place to start.

The Breakfast Geek or 15 Candles

09/23 Okay, it was the early Eighties and I was a Freshman in High School.  I don’t think the word Diabetic was even in my vocabulary.  A skinny brainiac with glasses and with friend I can count on my thumb.  The muscle and decent looks come a year and a half later.  I’m on the Yearbook Staff where this is this one “totally hot” Senior (female).  I would have done anything to get him to notice me.  That include be gullible to her every whim.  That includes offering to pay for a boatload of booze.  I one condition; my one thumb friend and I be allowed to attend the festivities.  Sound like something from John Hughes movie doesn’t it (You can get that movie and more by Clicking Here). Only I was a little taller than his geek though. And there were no “can’t we all just get along” moments in those days. I have some funny stories for that one too. OOPs!  Sorry about that, have to keep on track.  I am a serious movie buff who likes all kinds of movies, especially movies with the “Duke”.  If anybody reads this, tell me your favorite J.W. movie is. Anyway, she agrees and tells me that she will pick up my friend and me at our bus stop.  Know don’t you think I might have gotten a clue from that request. Damn I’m Dumb!

Before I sign off, thought I’d let a few people who are reading this expecting a ton of information on Diabetes, that yes I’m going to discuss it.  That is I might point on it here and there where it concerns me and how I’m changing the way I live.  I also give out some useful info when I come across it.  Like a report I read in WebMD that some doctors think that diabetes may to Alzheimer’s Disease.  Was it vice versa?  LOL, I was just kidding.  It also states that these two diseases are of the fastest growing in the U.S.    I think I also read somewhere else that it is tied to Vietnam Vets as well.    On that not, I served in the Marine Corps. So I don’t appreciate any negativism toward military what it’s doing in other countries.  Anyway, this blog is about the lifestyle (and don’t take that word too far) I led that in its sum led to my diagnosis as a diabetic.  It also covers my lifestyle today and the changes I’ve had to make because of Diabetes.

Vick is Back with Vengeance!

11/20- Did Michael Vick kick some ass or what?  For some reason I changed half of my rosters and benched my Star Big Ben.  In his place I put the ex-convict and boy did it pay some dividends.  I think he scored more than most of the teams I had him on.  I think I’m going to let it ride again this weekend.  Especially since Pittsburgh has the nasty Oakland Raiders.  My daughter is going to have some fun with this game.  She and the scrooge both love the Raiders.  On the sports note I have a special gift (that’s what I call it) down at the bottom of my page.  I sworn to secrecy but you might want to click on the banner down at the bottom of my sidebar.  I’m telling you, there are some great deals going on down there.
Those of you that construct your own websites can appreciate what I’m about to write about next.  Working on a website is some seriously aggravating business.  I know absolutely nothing about HTML or constructing a website, so my business has taken a bit of a hit on the aesthetic side.  It has taken me two months to figure out simple basic HTML code to change the look of my website.  It’s not that I haven’t been trying or researching.  I finally did it on my own with very little help from others.  I finally met a few fellow online marketers within the last month and even that didn’t help.  I’ll tell you one thing about marketers; they can be extremely stingy when it comes to handing out advice.  Very few of them are truly honest and helpful.  I think they are afraid of giving out some sort of trade secrets or something.  All I wanted was a little help on my site and they suddenly knew nothing about websites.  My Affiliate sponsors wanted money to help or money to make the changes themselves.  Don’t get me wrong; they have helped me in few other ways but when it came to web design or construction: ZILCH!
Oh yeah; Diabetes, it truly sucks.  Twice this week I found myself in one of those low blood sugar semi-delusions.  I have come to the point where I am nervous about taking my medication half of the time.  This also means that controlling my blood sugar is out of control.  I guess part of the blame would have to go to my eating habits.  I haven’t exactly been eating right and for a Diabetic that is extremely dangerous.  I was reading a Diabetic Ezine last month and apparently that is where many Diabetics have problems.  While I’m on the subject a shout out goes to my estranged sister for sending me two extra meters, a couple hundred lancets and testing strips.  Those that don’t know that is some serious coinage that I will be saving; so thanks SIS!
I won’t do this often, but when I find it necessary to promote a few of my affiliate links that actually mean something, I will put them down for you.  This one site actually pays you up to $20 a day just for logging in, peruse the site for a few minutes, and take a survey which is less than a minute a vote on this and that.  It’s in pre-launch stage and is going to be some type online payment system.  I’ve been a member for about two months and already have close to $500.  Don’t know when they will pay but they will as the site as to do with money!  Here’s the Link: http://www.paybox.me/r/45tdog5111   This next site will save you a ton of money on your favorite fast foods.  It’s a social Network that supposedly prides itself on helping people make money.  They only way you can make money are to pay the $100 for an upgrade.  The only reason I recommend it is for the tremendous savings on fast food, other restaurants and miscellaneous stores.  I referred my daughter and few of her friends, but since I wasn’t an upgrade and neither were they, I received no money.  I only recommend joining for the food and don’t worry about whether I’m going to make any money because I won’t.  Here it is:  http://cassysdad25.isaversnetwork.com.  That’s it for this week, and if anybody is reading, please post a comment or two.
